B&W Signature Foundations - Essentials
Master the platform. Make every movement count.
Feeling comfortable underwater starts with a stable platform: equipment that fits, balanced buoyancy, steady trim and controlled propulsion, helping you move less and glide more. When you’re no longer fighting your equipment or constantly correcting your position, everything feels easier, freeing up your attention to enjoy the dive, support your team and develop new skills.
Our Signature Foundations Program is a coaching experience focused on the fundamentals that make everything else underwater easier. Transition into a backplate and wing, optimise your existing configuration or take time to refine the way you dive.
Each session is adapted to your experience and goals, with practical feedback and time to practise.
Available in Single Cylinder · Twinset · Sidemount. Configuration suitability is discussed before booking.
Who Is This Program For?
👥 Certified divers wanting more control and comfort through stronger buoyancy, trim and propulsion skills.
⚙️ Divers transitioning into a backplate and wing who want guidance on setup, weighting and balance.
🔧 Divers refining their existing configuration to improve fit, accessibility and ease of movement.
🌊 Divers preparing for further training who want to strengthen their foundations before adding more complex skills.
What You Will Learn
🔘 Equipment Configuration: review fit, harness adjustment, cylinder positioning and equipment accessibility to build a platform that works for you.
🔘 Weighting & Balance: assess how much weight you need and where to place it for better control and comfort. No more overweighing yourself.
🔘 Buoyancy Control: practise maintaining depth with deliberate adjustments and relaxed breathing.
🔘 Trim & Position: develop a balanced body position and recognise how equipment placement and posture affect it.
🔘 Propulsion & Precision: explore propulsion techniques for positioning, precise manoeuvres and power, from frog kicks and modified kicks to helicopter turns and back kicks.
🔘 Precision Movement: work towards controlled turns, backwards movement and staying still without using your hands.
🔘 Awareness & Good Habits: bring your skills together while maintaining awareness of your team and surroundings.
What’s In It For You?
✅ Greater Control: Hold your depth and position with fewer unnecessary movements.
✅ More Comfortable Diving: Reduce the effort spent adjusting your equipment or correcting your balance.
✅ More Efficient Movement: Develop purposeful propulsion and better control around marine life, the seabed and your team.
✅ Personalised Feedback: Understand what to adjust, why it helps and how to keep practising after the session.
✅ Stronger Foundations: Build skills you can carry into everyday diving and future training.
This is a non-certification coaching program. It does not qualify you to use a new configuration independently or extend your existing diving qualifications or depth limits.
In-person instruction is available in English, French, Spanish and Japanese. You must be able to understand the briefing and communicate clearly with your instructor throughout the program.
Program Rate
Training rates start at €440 per person.
Duration
Allow two full days for equipment assessment, briefing, in-water coaching and debrief.
We’ll maximise your time in the water so you can practise, refine and get comfortable. Progress sets the pace, with time to focus on the areas that will make the biggest difference to your diving.
What Is Included?
Your program includes a dedicated instructor, cylinders suited to your configuration, gas up to Nitrox 32%, weights and all diving equipment required for the program, excluding drysuit and DPV. Technical facility use and land transport are also included.
Additional costs: Gas above Nitrox 32%, extra cylinders, and any ferry or boat fees are charged separately.
Prerequisites
✔️ A recognised diving certification.
✔️ A completed diving medical questionnaire (compulsory for all divers in Malta), with medical clearance where required.
You do not need previous backplate and wing experience to join in a single-cylinder configuration. For twinset or sidemount sessions, contact us to discuss your experience and whether foundations coaching or an introductory configuration program best suits your needs.

Questions & answers
Good to know
Can’t find your answer? Send us a message and we’ll be happy to help.
Do I need to be a good swimmer?
You need to be comfortable in the water. Before your first certification you complete a short swim and a 10-minute float, at your own pace and without a time limit. If you feel unsure, just tell us and we’ll help you get comfortable.
Is there a minimum age?
Most beginner courses start from age 10, with depth limits for younger divers. Specialty and Rescue courses have their own minimum ages. Get in touch and we’ll find the right course for you or your child.
Do I need a medical certificate?
Before diving you fill in a standard diver medical questionnaire. If you answer yes to any of the questions, you’ll need a doctor’s approval before getting in the water. Not sure? Send us a message and we’ll explain.
Do I need my own equipment?
No. We provide all the equipment you need for your course. If you have your own gear, you’re very welcome to bring it, and we can also help you choose equipment that fits you perfectly.
PADI or SDI: which should I choose?
Both give you an internationally recognised certification that lets you dive anywhere in the world. PADI is the best-known name worldwide; SDI is a modern, computer-based system from the same family as TDI, which makes the step into technical diving very smooth. We’re happy to explain the differences.
How long should I wait before flying after diving?
As a general guideline, wait at least 12 hours after a single dive and at least 18 hours after several dives or several days of diving. Plan your last dive day with your flight in mind and we’ll help you schedule it.
